Just read this Alan - am enjoying your past posts. You write very well! I learned on a Suzuki TS90 - my dad’s, my first bike was a ‘73 TS185 in the 5th form jn ‘75, bought with paper round savings + a loan from the old man. Then a Suzi T350 road bike, Honda 500/4, Kawa 750 briefly - then at 18 had a girlfriend who wanted a car so got a Hillman SuperMinx but that + her didn’t last that much longer haha, and have had god knows how many bikes since…Also my dad had a VE Valiant although I was too young too drive it and his first car I drove was a ‘73 XA Falcon V8.

Oh boy, this is on a par with the sublime and sadly missed RestArea300. Dad had the Mini (1968), I had the Suzuki (1967) and get to drive neighbour Patrice’s Fergy (sans Massey) here in Mapua. Thank you, driver.

Go well with your plan Alan. I drove the big reds when I first moved to Wellington in 1986. Absolute blast driving those beasts. Not so much fun dealing with the angry, drunken, entitled passengers😵‍💫

I seem to remember that you had been a driver in a past life Sandy. Drunk and entitled passengers doesn't sound fun, but the driving will hopefully outweigh that. Hope you're well!
